Sources and methodology
Everything you see in Argos Atlas comes from public, open sources. Here we explain where each thing comes from, under which licences it is reused, and what we do —and don't do— with the images.
Where the cameras come from
Camera images and metadata come from the official portals of public traffic and mobility bodies. We reuse that information under the applicable public-sector information reuse rules and under each origin portal's specific licence. We always credit the source and do not modify the original image content.
The context layers
The map is not only cameras. On top of it we draw infrastructure and territory from reference open datasets:
- OpenStreetMap (ODbL licence) for the base map and infrastructure.
- Natural Earth (public domain) for physical and political context.
- OurAirports (public domain) for the airport network.
Flight and ship positions come from open tracking sources and are shown live, at whatever cadence each source allows.
How we handle the images
Our principle is minimal intervention. Specifically:
- We only serve already-public feeds, at low resolution.
- We do not apply face or licence-plate recognition.
- We do not build history: only the latest frame from the source is kept.
- They are traffic cameras, framed by the bodies so that, as a general rule, they do not identify individuals.
Content takedown
Any owning body —or any party with a legitimate reason— may request the review or removal of content by writing to [email protected]. Properly identified requests are handled as quickly as possible. The legal detail is in the legal notice and the privacy policy.
